The Circle has received new funding to enable us to relaunch and expand The Circle Mobility, our newest service which offers free hire of mobility scooters, powerchairs and wheelchairs, based at Dundee’s Overgate Shopping Centre.
Funding from Northwood Charitable Trust, NHS Tayside Charitable Foundation, Dundee Common Good Fund, Dundee City Council Transport Department, the eBike Grant Fund, Walter Craig Charitable Trust and Mathew Trust will enable the service to evolve the service and work towards expansion. It will also allow us offer a wider range of accessible hire options, including new wheelchair adapted eBikes.
The Circle Mobility incorporates Dundee’s Shopmobility, which closed down in December 2022. The Circle has relaunched the service, with the aim of making Dundee more accessible for residents and visitors, as well as offering volunteering opportunities to the local community.
Our Dundee Hub Manager, Martin Cleary says: “Since taking it on, we’ve been really keen to get the service back up and running to serve the community of Dundee. It is also a great opportunity to expand our volunteering programme by offering more diverse roles”.
We also recently took on a Project Coordinator who will focus on developing the Mobility service, building partnerships and finding opportunities for growth. With this new role filled, the service has been able to open seven days a week.
We also plan to connect with partner organisations to hire out devices from more locations across Dundee.
The Circle’s Project Coordinator, Alex Joseph says: “It’s so exciting to have the funding available to provide this service. I’m looking forward to helping it grow and make Dundee a more accessible place.”
