The Circle Volunteering is an inclusive and empowering volunteer experience with roles across the business to suit a range of interests and personal development goals.
The Circle Volunteering plays an essential role in our ability to create a wide impact on our community. Our volunteers help our team and tenants in all areas of our hubs. In return, they gain a community, skills for life, and support to build upon their wellbeing.
The program is centred around our core values: fairness, teamwork, professionalism, pioneering, empowerment and inclusion.
The Circle has worked with the support of volunteers since its beginning, with previous development programs and traditional volunteer roles. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, our program was paused to protect vulnerable groups from exposure to the virus.
In 2021, we had a fresh start to our volunteer program by creating a dedicated Volunteer & Office Coordinator role. By June 2022, recruitment of volunteers started in Dundee and Glasgow.
The Circle Volunteering aims to create a safe space for volunteers to gain confidence and experience by being accessible and inclusive. We help our volunteers find experiences that suit them and have created a community they can feel comfortable in.
Our program is inclusive with an understanding of the motivations which drive volunteering and the barriers which prevent volunteering, which you can read more about here.
Our most recent Social Impact Report reflects how our goals have shaped the delivery of our volunteer program, with 48% of our volunteers identifying with disabilities, 44% identifying as BAME ethnicities, 18% identifying as part of the LGBTQ+ community, and 32% aged under 25.
You can read more about our volunteers: Yulia Skulskikh, Eddie Baines and our most recent interview with Margaret Grieve.
