We are delighted to share the success of our appeal to repair and reopen the accessible toilet at our Dudhope Castle hub!
We were forced to close off the only accessible toilet at Dudhope Castle due to severe damage from a leak in January this year. The Circle team sprang into action to raise the funds needed to repair this by launching a crowdfunding campaign at the start of February.
In just four weeks we received a total of £5,770 in donations from 62 supporters. But the good news does not end there.
As a result of publicising the appeal and reaching out to our networks, Dundee City Council put us in touch with construction company, McLaughlin & Harvey. The organisation and its subcontractors offered to carry out the repairs at no cost to The Circle. These works have now begun, and the toilet will be opened again this week.
The funds that we raised be earmarked for additional repair works at Dudhope Castle to make the building safer and more accessible for their community.
The Circle’s Founder and CEO, Kirsty Thomson said: “We’re so grateful for the amazing generosity of our supporters and to McLaughlin & Harvey for offering to complete this work for us. It means so much that we’ll be able to reopen our accessible toilet and now do further work to make the building more accessible.”
Jane Elder, Responsible Business Manager at McLaughlin and Harvey said: ” We are delighted to have been able to help The Circle. At McLaughlin & Harvey, we are actively committed to supporting communities with the greatest need through our You Matter Communities Scheme, embodying our values of care, commitment, and collaboration. The repairs to the accessible toilet will make a difference to the service users and the visitors at The Circle making their Dudhope Castle hub a more welcoming place for everyone.
We would like to thank our supply chain members for undertaking the work free of charge allowing The Circle to use the funds raised through their recent Crowdfunding to go towards other much-needed repairs.”
Thank you to McLaughlin & Harvey, Prime Joinery Solutions Ltd, Emtec Building Services, Westend Flooring and Neville Lumb Bathrooms and Washrooms for carrying out this work. Thank you to Dundee City Council for connecting us with McLaughlin & Harvey.
We also want to thank everyone who donated to our crowdfunding campaign and those who shared it with their networks.
We’ll be posting more updates once the accessible toilet has been reopened.
