Community Wealth Building programme in Aberdeenshire

In November 2022 The Circle was approached by Elevator about an opportunity to work together on a programme focused on Community Wealth Building for Aberdeenshire Council. The aim of this programme was to provide people with knowledge on Community Wealth Building and help them clarify their plans to better prepare them for setting up and running their projects. Over the course of 6 weeks, The Circle delivered interactive workshops covering key topics that would help set people off on a journey to running impactful projects for their communities across Aberdeenshire. Participants joined from Aboyne, Kintore, Kemnay, Ballater, Fraserburgh, Ellon, Kincardineshire and Alford.

A quote which reads “We were delighted to partner with The Circle to deliver a pilot Community Wealth Building programme in Aberdeenshire. The high uptake demonstrated a clearly defined need to provide more support to communities to create and support new social impact businesses. The Circle's delivery team expertise is exceptional and highly relevant.” - Rachel Ross, Elevator

The programme was delivered to a group who were at a mixture of stages, from those with an idea to those looking to make changes at an established organisation. 100% of participants said they had a very poor to fair knowledge of community wealth building before the programme. By the end of the programme, 82% felt they had a good or excellent knowledge of community wealth building. 80% of participants didn’t yet have a completed strategy for their venture. By the time the programme ended, the participants all had a clear vision and mission for their projects.

After the programme was complete the participants were able to access a free 1-to-1 consultancy session to further solidify their plans. The participants had also built strong connections and decided to create a group chat to stay in touch with each other.

A quote which reads “I have created a new voluntary organisation with a board of 5 women to act as an umbrella over the three projects I am presently committed to, all geared around play and learning. This will enable me to seek funding for staff and for the projects themselves, as well as providing direction to keep them all on track.” – A participant 6 months after the programme ended
