We are hosting an open day at the premises of our Mobility project on Thursday 22nd August!
The Circle Mobility offers free hire of mobility scooters, powerchairs, wheelchairs, from its central location at Dundee’s Overgate Shopping Centre, in the premises formerly occupied by Shopmobility.
On August 22nd, the public will be invited to view the range of mobility equipment available to hire, meet staff and volunteers, and learn more about the service, which aims to make the city more accessible.
The Circle Mobility launched in December 2023, relaunching Dundee’s former Shopmobility service that closed in 2022. Since opening, The Circle Mobility has signed up over 100 new members and hired out devices more than 230 times. It is now open seven days a week and offers volunteering opportunities to the local community. The reception so far to the service has been very positive; quotes from people who have used the service since it relaunched include:
“Absolutely amazing, I love the work you’re doing!”
“I can’t describe how much it [The Circle Mobility] has changed my life”
“I could weep with happiness that you even exist…a lifesaver”
We received a funding boost this year to develop the project. We will soon be offering hire of eBikes as part of the service thanks to funding from the eBike Grant Fund.
The Circle Mobility wants to widen our reach to more potential users, supporters and partners. We hope the open day will encourage those who want to learn more about the Mobility project’s services.
Our Dundee Hub Manager, Martin Cleary says: “We’re delighted about how many people we have been able to help get out and about so far. We hope this event will let more people know that they can also get free access to this amazing service and let us reach even more people!”
Anyone who wants to know more about The Circle Mobility project – whether they might use the service or want to collaborate with the project – can attend the open day. Guests can come along to meet some of our staff and volunteers, look at the range of equipment they offer and enjoy some light refreshments while they learn about the project. The service will also be running as normal so people can hire equipment during this time.
The open day is a drop in event so anyone who is interested in attending can join the event any time between 11am and 2pm on Thursday 22nd August. The open day will take place at The Circle Mobility at Overgate Lane, N Lindsay Street, Dundee, DD1 2UF.
