Over the past five years, we have seen an increase in the number of Social Enterprises and they have more than doubled in Scotland, 200 of those have signed up in the past year alone. A social investment report, by the Adebowale Commission, published earlier this year, called for the UK Government to “learn from Scotland” on how to grow social enterprise infrastructure and schemes across the UK.
With this in mind, we are thrilled to announce that we are expanding to a third site in Scotland to further support businesses to make a difference in their community. At the end of March, we will become tenants of the Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc in Dundee where we will lease 7,000 sq ft of rentable space. Adding this to our existing site in Easterhouse, Glasgow, our move to Dudhope Castle, Dundee, will bring us to around 50,000 sq ft of space that is rented to charities, social enterprises, community groups and socially led businesses.
Social Enterprises are moving to a more collaborative way of working and want to be surrounded by like-minded organisations, our flexible, fair-rent, workspaces give them that sense of community many crave. The Circle can meet that growing demand.
Kirsty Thomson, Founder & CEO of The Circle said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to develop this innovative site for use by community groups, charities and social enterprises. We would like to thank MSIP for helping us to bring our vision to the new Innovation Parc and we look forward to working with MSIP in the future.”
We will be taking over the former recreational space at MSIP, once known as the Mac Club and working with Invertay Homes to create extra office pods on site.
Greig Coull, Chief Executive Officer at, MSIP said: “This is a really exciting time for The Circle, with ambitious future plans. I’m pleased that MSIP can be one small part of that.”
“The impact The Circle has already made and will continue to make on Dundee and those that live here is incredible.”
“There is strong community interest in the space that was formerly the recreational club. I’m sure our local community will be pleased to see the space being put to good use with The Circle breathing new life into it.”
Whilst our site at Dudhope is full and our site at Easterhouse has more than doubled its number of tenants in the seven months we have occupied the previous Westwood Business Centre, the space at MSIP has the potential to grow.
